2017 Industry Builder Hall of Fame Inductee

Gaétan Marcoux

Introductory Speech by Tony Gallagher, CEM:

Hello CAEM members and guests. We have worked alongside of this honoree for many years. As the award suggests, this individual was instrumental in the building and promoting of the very first international auto show here in Quebec City in 1981.  That was just the start.  After the Auto Show he continued with many other show launches for many years. In 1997 with a surge of excitement, the City of Quebec recruited this individual to keep the industry growing. As part of the leadership team of Center de foires of Expo Cité he continued to expand their portfolio of shows and events, eventually leading to the expansion of the facility to 230,000 square feet. Always promoting what Quebec City offers, they were able to draw show producers into the Québec experience. Many of these shows still thrive and exist today. Under his leadership and guidance, the Québec City exposition industry flourished, and with it, many other companies and employees now make their livelihood in this strong vibrant industry.  Congratulations….

Introduction par Josée Rousseau

Acceptance Speech by Gaétan Marcoux:

It is with great honor that I am here today. This day will forever be engraved in my memory.  When I received the call confirming that my candidacy had been retained, I was in shock! I have worked in this industry for 38 years, and last Fall, the APEQ honored me as a founding member, and today, I am inducted to the "Hall of fame industry builder".  Who could ask for more??

I would like to thank the nominating committee for this honor and also my two colleagues and friends, Marylène Beaudry of Place Bonaventure and Nicolas Marois of Expocité,  who initiated the process with the Asssociation. Throughout my career I have had the luck and good fortune to work with great people, and I have grown in this wonderful industry by your side. I would also like to thank my employer who trusted me to run the Centre de foires de Québec, from its construction in 1993 to its expansion in 2011, and until my retirement in September 2014.  To all my clients and industry colleagues, both in Quebec and across Canada, it was an honor to serve you, I will never forget you! Thank you all, and long life to you and to CAEM.
